Can Chiropractic Help Colic? A Parent’s Guide from Your Middleton Chiropractor

As a pediatric chiropractor in Middleton, one of the hardest things I see is exhausted parents struggling with a colicky baby. That cry that just won’t stop, the hours of pacing, the feeling that nothing helps – I get it, and I too have been in your shoes. My oldest was this exact baby. It was constant tears, bouncing, and singing songs to the point of exhaustion in hopes she would stop crying. While the crying bothered me, what concerned me most was that mother’s intuition telling me something just wasn’t right. After incorporating chiropractic care into her life, we began to see the changes we were hoping for. She became more comfortable and started sleeping with ease. That’s why I’m here to tell you there’s hope.

What I See at ADIO Chiropractic

When parents bring their colicky babies to our Middleton practice, just minutes from Madison, they’re often at their wit’s end. But here’s what I want you to know: while colic is common, it’s not normal. Your baby’s crying is often their only way to tell us their nervous system needs support.

Understanding Colic Differently

You might hear that colic is “just a phase” or that it’s caused by gas, feeding issues, or an immature digestive system. While these can contribute to discomfort, what we often see is a nervous system stuck in “fight or flight” mode. This usually stems from either a stressful pregnancy or a more complicated birth process than expected. Your baby isn’t being “fussy” – their system is simply telling us they need help shifting out of that sympathetic (stressed) state. And that’s exactly where chiropractic care comes in for babies! It’s not always for a musculoskeletal complaint like the inability to turn to one side or feeling tight and rigid.

How We Help

In our Middleton office, we approach colic differently. Through extremely gentle adjustments (about the same pressure you’d use to check a ripe tomato), we help:

  •         Support your baby’s nervous system
  •         Release birth-related tension
  •         Improve digestive comfort
  •         Enhance sleep quality

What to Expect

We keep things simple. After a thorough assessment with our nervous system scans, and a report of findings, our adjustments are then gentle and quick – usually just a few minutes. Many babies even sleep through their visits! Along the way we will also help make sure you understand exactly how we’re supporting their nervous system and seeing the changes we know are possible.

I’ve seen countless families throughout Middleton, Madison, and Dane County find colic relief for their little one, including my own child, through gentle chiropractic care.
