ADHD and Behavior Issues

If your child has an ADHD diagnosis or ADHD symptoms, these may be some red flags that your child may have a spinal misalignment. When there are misalignments, our body systems have a hard time working properly.

There are 12 human body organ systems. Examples include the sensory system, the immune system, and the digestive system, among others. Our brain operates each system in our body with the help of our nerves. These nerves run through—you guessed it—our spine!

When there is a misalignment in our nervous system, these systems can malfunction and cause issues. Things like ear infections, difficultly paying attention, sinus infections, headaches, constipation, ADHD, inability to sit still, etc. can all occur.

Nerve supply is to the body, as water is to a plant—necessary and life-giving to the parts it reaches. If your child has been struggling with illness, digestive, or behavioral issues, a spinal misalignment may be a contributing factor. Parents are often surprised to find out that many of their child’s issues are potentially connected.

Children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

What is it?

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a mental disorder marked by an inability to focus, sit still, and control impulses. ADHD is typically found in children and can sometimes be difficult to detect. Typical behavior for a child, especially at a young age, can be very similar to ADHD symptoms. Thus, many children who have ADHD either seek behavioral therapy or take ADHD medications which can be non-stimulant or stimulant medications.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Symptoms

Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may experience difficulty paying attention, trouble focusing on tasks, be hyperactive, and act impulsively without thinking about the consequences. For example, children with ADHD may begin to avoid tasks that require sustained mental effort, such as completing a book report or completing a short reading assignment, because it can be extremely difficult for them to stay focused on one single task.

Other Behavioral Issues

Additionally, some young children may also have difficulty with anger, anxiety, and depression. These behaviors can cause issues at school and at home if not addressed. Children often experience emotional stress early in life, which causes them to act out. They have all of these emotions and feelings they need and want to get out but don’t know how to do so in a positive way.

Spinal misalignment can affect a child’s mood and their ability to focus. Some children may benefit from behavioral therapy, chiropractic care, and implementing positive habits to support living an overall healthy lifestyle.

Anger Issues

Anger is a powerful emotion. Children, especially young children, cannot control their anger in the same way adults do. When a child feels angry, they may act out in different ways. A child’s behavior in response to anger may look like throwing things, hitting people, or calling people names.

Anxiety Disorder

Anxiety disorder is a feeling of unease, worry, and fear that can be constant or come and go. Children with an anxiety disorder may often feel worried or scared for no reason. Anxiety can impact a child’s life in many ways. They may have trouble sleeping, feel restless, and have difficulty focusing in school. Thankfully, chiropractic care can benefit a child’s life in so many positive ways. It can play a role in releasing tension and helping your child get back to living a normal, healthy life.

Depression

Depression is a feeling of sadness that can last for a short period of time or for an extended period of time. It can make it hard for children to feel happy, enjoy activities they used to enjoy, and can cause them to feel tired and worthless. Like anxiety disorder, depression can interfere with a child’s ability to focus in school.

Pediatric chiropractic care can assist with managing symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other learning disabilities in children. Regular chiropractic maintenance can improve focus and can lead to improved behavior, too.

How Pediatric Chiropractic Care Can Help

Pediatric chiropractic care involves the correction of spinal misalignments or subluxations that cause dysfunction in body systems. When there is a malfunction in the body, we know that there is most likely a misalignment disrupting the nerve supply.

After a thorough chiropractic assessment, a chiropractor can create a customized treatment plan that will address your child’s specific needs. A simple pediatric chiropractic care plan can alleviate certain nervous system issues, reduce the need for ADHD medications, reduce anxiety, reduce behavior issues at home and school, and provide many other profound health benefits.

Spinal manipulation can reduce strain on the joints and bones, including the spine, which positively affects your child’s neural development. Increased brain development promotes high levels of concentration, meaning your child will be less easily distracted. Pediatric chiropractic care can help many areas of the body, including the digestive system, sensory nervous system, and even your child’s immune system.

How do misalignments happen?

Well, the short answer- life. As a child develops, they experience small traumas. From the birth process to stumbling as they learn to walk and falling as they learn to ride a bike, misalignments happen. Your child’s spine is constantly developing. Though children may not complain about pain, ADHD, illness, and behavior struggles are all signs of misalignment, and chiropractic care can help and can provide serious health benefits.

How do you know if your child has a misalignment?

An evaluation by a pediatric chiropractor who has undergone specialized training can address this question and help start your child on their journey to being their best self. As your child receives chiropractic adjustments, you may notice that the meltdowns diminish, and they start to handle transitions more easily. Ultimately, chiropractic care aims to help calm a child’s nervous system and allow all the body systems to function optimally.
